Those Pandas are beautiful. I only have one in my collection but I know it to be genuine because I bought it from Apmex. Pandas are nice and I wouldn't mind having a few more in my collection but only if I can be certain of their authenticity.

pandas are beautiful coins. The newer ones are almost impossible to fake properly. I would buy them and give out as gifts.

You absolutely nailed the lighting on those coins. Still using your Canon? If so, I'm astonished that a P&S lens will do that.

Does anyone know what the mintage numbers are for the 2000 silver 1oz panda? Tried but can't find them anywhere. :confused_ma:

Jellylegs -

See this link for your answer, or part of it: One panda collector site and Another panda collector site. It's a start anyways.

Yup... the SD400. It is the macro software on that model that makes it work... and the tripod helps. I am shooting about 2-3 inches from the coin.

You can pick up the SD400 for $150 now...

I had to hold a black clip board above the coins so it would not reflect the white ceiling. The quality really gets reduced posting here in small size.

Actually you don't have to post in small size here. Notice the picture below, that picture isn't posted through the GIM "manage attachments" but really is a link to the site where the shot resides. You can still control the shot dimensions, you don't want to post 4400x2500 12 meg files after like the original shot, but you can limit them to what you want. Right click for properties on the shot and you will see where it is stored plus the file properties that I decided on for the net..

You need a image hosting site, there are a number of free ones; I use photobucket and flickr. I download the shots there at whatever resolution I choose and link to them using that yellow button on the header of post compose box.

I have a site and webspace. I just don't like sharing PM pics on a site with my address.

The future of flickr... maybe you have seen. Photosynth and Seadragon, worth a look.
